The city of Braganca is a jewel for
wandering. Walk the narrow streets inside the old city walls, and feel
the history of this city that gave its name to one of Portugal's kings
in 1442.
Also - don't miss sipping a glass of
port at sunset on the Pousadas outdoor terrace overlooking the city
below - you won't soon forget it!
For hiking enthusiasts, there is a
beautiful national park, Parque Nacional de Montesinho, just north of
here that provides great trail hiking opportunities.
This is a little-visited and completely
fascinating part of the country. It had been isolated for centuries
before recent access via new paved roads. The natives here have
maintained rites and festivals of a very ancient, pre-Christian, time.
