The Pousada Óbidos and the 15th century Castelo de Óbidos, have been chosen as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal. The Pousada is actually located within the centuries-old walls of the majestic castle. These same walls completely encircle the town of Obidos.

The Manueline palace was added to the castle at beginning of 16th century. Óbidos is one of Portugal's most important tourist attractions. It is a town of typical blue-trimmed, white houses with flowered windows, narrow cobblestone streets.

The Pousada Obidos was the first in the Portugal Pousada chain to be adapted and restored from a historical monument.

The village of Óbidos was re-conquered from the Moors by King Afonso Henriques in 1148.

Although the village was partially destroyed by the earthquake of 1755 - it is today one of Portugal's most scenic and quaint. It is known for its typical white houses with blue trim, the many windows and balconies with flowers, and its narrow streets paved in beautiful stone.

This small village has innumerable cultural treasures, such as its 14 churches and chapels. It has an aqueduct, a large lagoon where guests can go fishing and hunting, and the Bom Sucesso´s Place, where the Royal picnics used to take place.
